Shettima Reaffirms FG’s Commitment to Bakassi Deep Seaport, Lagos-Calabar Highway

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to major infrastructure projects in Cross River State, particularly the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Shettima described the projects as strategic investments expected to expand economic opportunities, improve connectivity and strengthen the state’s contribution to Nigeria’s economy.

Coastal Highway to Boost Connectivity, Jobs

The Vice President gave the assurance during the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

He said the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would improve transportation across coastal communities, facilitate the movement of goods and services, stimulate tourism and attract investments.

According to him, the project is also expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Bakassi Deep Seaport Gets Federal Approval

On the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport, Shettima said the Federal Government had approved the project, expressing optimism that it would position Cross River as a major maritime hub and gateway for international trade.

He noted that the seaport and coastal highway would create new opportunities for businesses, strengthen commercial activities and improve the state's economic prospects.

Shettima Highlights Education Support

Shettima also highlighted the Tinubu administration’s interventions in education, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he said was designed to expand access to higher education and reduce the financial burden on parents.

He described the relationship between the Federal Government and Cross River State as one built on shared development and prosperity.

The Vice President urged residents to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027, arguing that continued cooperation between both levels of government would accelerate development in the state.
