President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward promise to the Super Falcons following their victory at the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria secured a record-extending 10th continental title.
According to the National Sports Commission, the players have started receiving payments of about ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the promised reward.
Super Falcons' Historic WAFCON Comeback
The Super Falcons claimed the title in July 2025 after coming from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco in the final.
The victory extended Nigeria's record as the most successful team in the history of the women's continental competition.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for fulfilling the promise, describing the payment as recognition of the team's achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.
Tinubu Also Rewarded D'Tigress
The National Sports Commission noted that the President had similarly promised and delivered $100,000 rewards to members of Nigeria's women's basketball team, D'Tigress, following their victory at the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket.
Nigeria secured a fifth consecutive continental title at the competition.
The Commission commended the President for supporting Nigerian athletes, adding that the fulfilment of the rewards promotes recognition for sporting achievements and encourages athletes to pursue further success on the international stage.
